Spaetzle, from smitten kitchen
After eating spaetzle for the first time in a few years over the weekend, i’m obsessed. I think i’m going to try to make my own.
Between moving in, Gatsby being sick, and both myself and Jinu being incredibly busy at work (it’s almost 9:30pm and he’s not back home yet, second night in a row) life seems to be moving quickly. It felt a little stagnant there with the Christmas to New Year lull especially at work but lately it feels like go go go and I like it. I’ve been idle for quite some time and it feels good to get my blood flowing again.
On that note, Gatsby’s latest blood test results are in…and he’s very close to being at normal levels! When I talked to the doctor on Monday I was nearly in tears because I was so worried about him.
Playlist: Lights . Ellie Goulding
Reading: A Perfectly Kept House is the Sign of a Misspent Life . Mary Randolph Carter (furiously reading home-themed books in attempts to make sense of what i want to do to the house…)
Thought you might like this sketch I did. Love your site.
Cheers,
John
I’m on a wind down from a whirlwind few weeks. Getting the house painted, moving in, and workload is picking up. On top of all that the puppy is sick. Not just any sick, but hemolytic anemia which is an autoimmune disease, meaning his white blood cells were attacking his healthy red blood cells. Depressed, lethargic, pale puppy—took about half a week to really figure out what’s wrong. He’s now on prednisone and we’re going for weekly blood tests. My oldest sister used to be on prednisone for a long time for a similar reason and now it’s a time that i’m reliving, just now as a caretaker.

My pup in better spirits.
Signs of anemia in pets (it can happy to both cats and dogs)
- depression
- change in behavior
- pale gums, ears, and eye tissue
- lethargy and lack of activeness
- vomiting
Gatsby is doing better, the prednisone seems to be working and his blood levels are slowly making its way back up. He’s at the very least acting more like himself, if anything a little bit more in need of cuddle time.
In other news, making leeway on the house. No longer in paint chip hell and should be pretty much done with painting by Friday. We moved in just this past weekend in mid-20s weather and in a winter storm warning that yielded 8” of snow by Saturday night. So, we’re slowly unpacking and hemmorraging money by buying this and that for the house. Home ownership is so fun!
